Craigends of the 20th Century

About

For centuries Craigends was the grand country estate of the Cuninghame family, but after the passing of the 17th and final laird's widow, in 1958, the estate was left derelict.

The derelict estate became an attraction for locals who delighted in exploring the Mansion House and its grounds. Over the years, though, the Mansion fell in to dilapidation and by 1967 it was largely demolished.

In 1973 construction on the first of many housing estates began and by the close of the century, Craigends had become one of the largest housing developments in the West of Scotland.

What?

Craigends of the 20th Century (C20C) is an effort to share and catalogue people's memories and thoughts on Craigends, Renfrewshire.

Why?

Without a project like C20C much of Craigends' unique past is at risk of being forgotten and lost forever.

How?

C20C aims to open dialogues with members of Craigends community, past and present, and share their contributions with everyone.

Who?

You! The success of C20C relies on the input of everyone who remembers Craigends in the last century.
