Upper Foyers was purchased by John Charles Cuninghame in 1871. The estate was then used mainly as a sporting one for grouse shooting, deer stalking and fishing. In 1895 Cuninghame sold the estates with the exception of Garrogie and its shooting lodge to the British Aluminium Company Ltd.
