The Roseneath site of 10000 acres was selected by Boyd Alexander Cunninghame and registered in August of 1845 to carry 300 cattle. The Cunninghames built a delightful homestead on a high bank overlooking the lake. The orchard, stables and men's quarters were further to the west, below the bank. The house was built around a garden courtyard and had double glass doors opening on to veranda. Leading down from the house to the lake was a stairway.

The Cunninghames had five daughters, all renowned for their beauty, and Roseneath was always full of visitors, with beds on the floor and in every corner including the veranda.

The ownership of Roseneath was take over from Boyd Cunninghame by Isaac Buchanan in June, 1850 [...]

The Cunninghames remained close neighbours to Roseneath after they sold, with Robert Cunninghame, Boyd's brother, being a part owner of the Clydebank run situated on the western shore of Lake Wellington.

[...] Boyd Cunninghame had his own decked cutter, the Wave, for his use around the lakes.
